Choose one of the five writing options below. Remember you must have an introduction, body, and conclusion (so yes, this means at least 3 paragraphs.) Use passages from the play to prove your thoughts and ideas.
1. Juliet’s parents mourn for her. Is their sorrow real? Did they love her? How do you know? What should the love of parents look like? Prove your thoughts with specific details from the play.
2. Through words and actions, Shakespeare has his characters show how adults respond to the needs and problems of teenagers. Analyze the ways in which any two adults in the play react to teenagers, and comment on/critique their words and actions.
Provide specific details to support your opinion and explain your thoughts in detail.
3. Some characters in the play are static and do not change very much; others are quite dynamic and change a great deal. Choose one character and analyze how he or she changes in the course of the play. Is this change beneficial to their growth, or is it detrimental to their growth?
4. Why is it so hard to tell the truth, at times? How do you view lying? Is getting in trouble worse? How does a person's conscience affect a person who "lives a lie?" Who's truly lying in this play? Provide specific details to support your opinion and explain your thoughts in detail.
5. Of the characters in Act IV, who do you have sympathy for? Why? Provide specific details to support your opinion. Be sure to elaborate and explain your thoughts in detail.

ReplyDeleteJuliet has to choose between love for Romeo or love like her parents want it to be. Juliet's parents want her to marry Paris because he is rich and handsome. Also so the Capulets have an heir to all of their money. Juliet however wants to be with Romeo because she loves him. Juliet has a hard decision because she has to choose one or the other. Either break her vows with Romeo and marry Paris as her parents want or fake her death and be with Romeo but break her parents hearts.
Juliet has to decide if she wants love from Romeo or if she wants trust from her parents. In the end she chooses love for Romeo because she couldn't bear to be with someone she doesn't love for the rest of her life. So she takes the vial of liquid so she appears dead. When her parents see her "dead" they are heart broken because they lost their only child and their only heir to all of their possessions. She also has hurt Nurse because she knew and loved her for so long and now she is "dead" and broken so many hearts.
Either way Juliet is going to break someones heart and she has to choose because Juliet can not have both Romeo and her parents. I would never want to be in that situation because its like choosing life over death. You would likely choose life but with Juliet its like choosing one way to die over another way to die. Thats why I would never want to be in the situation that Juliet is in.
I can see why you would have sympathy for both Romeo and Juliet. If I had to choose which one of the two I had more sympathy for, it would be Romeo. I have more sympathy for Romeo because I think he's been through a lot. Romeo has a lot on his mind at this point. For one thing, he's struggling on keeping the relationship between Juliet and himself.
ReplyDeleteRomeo has been through a lot throughout the whole story. He got married to Juliet, and now he's trying desperately to keep that relationship. When he killed Tybalt, this really threatened their relationship. Juliet likes Romeo so much, she didn't care that he killed Tybalt, just as long as she still had Romeo. Romeo's punishment for killing Tybalt was not good.
Romeo and Juliet are going to have a tough time seeing each other if Romeo is banished from Verona. They will have a lot harder time seeing each other because of this. Also, when Juliet's parents find out about Juliet's marriage, they will not be happy. I think Juliet's father will try to separate them from each other if he finds out she's faking her death so she doesn't have to marry Paris.

ReplyDeleteI feel sympathy for Juliet the most. She is going through a very hard time at the moment, and she had to make adult decions at a very young age. There are many reasons that I feel sympathy for her.
One of the main ones is that her parents dont really love her. They are using her to marry the rich guy Paris to uphold their name. They dont really care if she is happy, they just want to look good. They are forcing her to marry Paris when she is already married and in love. If they really cared about her, they would accept the fact that he is a montegue so they wouldn't have to do things in secret and their daughter could be happy.
When she refuses to marry him, he dad goes insane. He calls her names and threatens to beat her. She is crying and very upset from this. Not even her mom sticks up fro her. So she turns to her best friend, the nurse. Whenever she needs someone to talk to, the nurse has always been there. But this time, the nurse tells her she should leave Romeo and marry Paris. So now she knows that her parents dont really lover her, they are using her, and the nurse is no longer her friend. She is so sad because there is no way to get out of it. She goes to the Friar for help.
This is why I feel so sorry for her. She is young and emotional, and now she has to make adult decsions that will effect her life greatly. If she doesn't make the right moves, her life will be miserable. We havent finished the story yet, but i hope she gets out of her hole and is happy as she can be.

ReplyDeleteParis has spent countless times trying to win Juliet’s affection and Juliet is not even considering Paris’s emotions. Paris has been given the bad card compared to Romeo who won Juliet in less than a day. Nobody cares about Paris’s love for Juliet except her parents. It really doesn’t help either because she wouldn’t be marrying him for love. It would because of peer pressure and force. Paris, I wish could have had a happy ending, but around every corner he is getting the wrong end of the stick.
Juliet, finally caving into Paris’s love, has agreed to marry Paris. That is the point of view from Paris’s eyes. In Juliet’s eyes, she is tricking him, playing with his emotions, and even going to the point of death to not marry Paris. Another thing, Paris has been working hard to win Juliet. Romeo steps in and “gets Juliet” within a day. She even pushes Romeo out of her bedroom before her mother can announce the wedding of Paris and her. If only Paris knew about this, he would not be chasing her for so long. He really loves Juliet but she doesn’t love her back. It says in the text he is one of the most popular person in all of Verona. He could have anyone for a wife if he wanted to. He was even willing to wait two whole years, according to Juliet’s father, to marry her. Juliet doesn’t take Paris’s thoughts into consideration. He truly loves Juliet; why would he be waiting for so long for her?
So, Paris has been getting “played” by Juliet for a very long time. He would obviously be better due to Romeo being a Montague. Paris also loves Juliet. He has loved her far longer than Romeo has declared his love. Paris has been handed a bad hand and can’t really open his eyes to Juliet’s lies. He is better than Juliet, and needs to open up and say no.

ReplyDeleteThe truth is something that isn't always easy to tell, especially when you know the consequences to come from the truth. We all know it is the right thing but a lot of times it is hard to do. In this story a lot of times they word the phrases so they aren't lying but really they mean something else that is totally different from what the person hearing it think, or know.
Another thing is not telling the whole truth or just leaving things out. Friar doesn't lie right to the Capulates faces but leaves stuff out so he does not. Friar is swore secrecy which hurts him when talking to the Capulates and Paris. He knows what he has to to to make it all work out in the end and hopefully help cause more peace. As Friar states, "Don't disturb the havens any more by trying to go against havens will." He says this to be comforting but really he doesn't want Juliet's parents to know that she is alive again and that she is going to run away with Romeo when she wakes up. Also sometimes if you don't lie to some one then you are lying to the person you said that you would spill the beans. So it really depends on which situation and which is more important.
So really lying isn't always the right thing to do but if its in the situation to save someones life then a lot of times it is the right thing to do and to let the families morn the dead in peace. So in many situations lying is wrong but there is a few that make it an ok thing to do.
Truth is often a hard thing to tell but it can help or hurt. Truth is being honest to a person. Truth can often be hard to tell. It can also be easy to talk about, but it may hurt someone so it may be both at once. Telling the truth is often the good thing, but it may also hurt a person down the line.
ReplyDeleteWhen you need to tell the truth it is hard in some cases. For example when you did something wrong or to someone else. You may get into trouble. Even though you know you will get into trouble. It allows you to get it off of your chest though. In act four the nurse can not tell Lady Capulet about Romeo. That is because she loves Juliet and whatever makes Juliet happy makes her happy.
It is also easy to tell the truth when your friend is in trouble or you are in trouble. Telling the truth may be so easy that it just slips out of your mouth. When you are able to tell the truth so easy it can mean that you are very worried. It can also mean that you love the person who you are talking about. Also who you are even talking to. For the nurse it is also hard for her because the Capulet’s may not believe her, and she might lose her job.
Telling the truth though may be hard and easy to tell at the same time. I say this because sometimes you want to say it not thinking then you think about what may happen then it is hard to tell. Like the nurse she does not want to tell to keep Juliet safe. She also does not want to lose her job because of the secret she is keeping.
So Truth is hard and easy to tell at the same time. Sometimes it is just plain hard. Others it is just easy to tell. I think if telling the truth will help say something. If it does not help do not say anything. So either way its your choice if you’re going to tell.

ReplyDeleteI think the nurse deserves the most sympathy from juliet's death. She deserves it more than anyone because she knew Juliet the most.
She knows Juliet better than the her mother, she pretty much raised Juliet by herself while Lady Capulet sat and watched so I believe the nurse know her the best because she is like another member of her family and to lose a family member is devastating especially when she raised her. I also think that she deserves the most sympathy because she already lost her own daughter that she loved and raised so Juliet was like a second chance and now she's gone also so she is very upset. I think it was a good thing that Juliet didn't tell her about the potion though because then the Capulets would have a higher chance of catching her. Then I also believe that she deserves it more than paris even because Paris barely even knows her even though he is going to be married to her. She defiantly deserves it more than the Capulets because they don't seem all that sad when they find her were as the nurse is balling isn't really dead and he is the one who told her to do it.
I think the nurse deserves the most sympathy because she didn't know and she and already lost a child.
Juliet is Stuck in frustrating situations because her parents expect her to Marry Paris but Juliet doesn't love Paris she Loves Romeo. Juliet has lack of help right now because her parents don't agree with what she wants, her parents want Juliet to go by what they want and not let Juliet marry any one else. Juliet's parents don't show a whole lot of love towards Juliet and I think it's because hey never really raised her. I say this because in the book the Nurse spent her time raising Juliet from the moment she was born. Juliet's parents love is not all their because they don't care about how she feels about things they just have it their way. Real love is when you go to your kid and say "Hey how was your day?" Or you ask them what their feelings are abut some thing that is important. Your parents love shouldn't be stressful for their chilled, parents are supposed to tell their kids that things will be okay and they should also give you tips on how to solve things. I'de say that Juliet's parent don't know how to be parents because they don't show true love for Juliet.

ReplyDeleteLying can get you in a lot of trouble, but at times, can save you. Have you ever lied to your mom about cleaning your room, I know I have, but she goes into my room, and that’s when I get a lecture. She says not to lie, because it can get you in trouble, which is true. It can also help you in situations, like if she didn’t go into your room, and just believe you.
I view lying as a habit, I lie about a lot of stuff. I lie about what I did yesterday, to people I don’t want them to know. Sometimes if you tell the person the truth, well it can lead into bigger problems. They start to question you, like “are you lying”? You instantly say “no”, but deep inside you want to say yes, but you just can’t! Either way, if you do tell the truth, they still ask question, so I guess you can’t really escape all the questing.
Trouble is another way of saying, you lied. When you hear, your in trouble, its mostly because you lied, or did something you shouldn’t of. Have you ever been around a really good liar, they can lie their way through everything, even at the hardest times. I personally don’t feel bad for them, because they lied, first of off, you should tell the truth, because someone will find out!
I believe that Romeo and Juilet are lying to themselves, they think their going to get away with this, but in reality, they will not. They are 1 step in front of everyone else, until they can’t take any more steps, until they are caught. You can lie to cover up the lie you just told, but in reality, you're digging yourself a bigger hole. I believe that strict parent’s make sneaky kids. Parent’s are strict these days, so kids try to cheat the system, they lie about what they are doing, and what they will do. Juilet said to Romeo will get caught sooner or later, might as well stop while they are ahead.

ReplyDeleteTelling the truth is hard at times. You just can’t get up the courage to say what is right. You just don’t want to get into trouble. The consequences make you fear telling the truth. In Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, Juliet lies in scene four. She doesn't want to marry Paris but she tells her dad that she does. She also lies about death!
I think that telling little white lies that don’t hurt anything are ok at times. But if you tell someone a lie that changes their whole perspective on life then that is definitely not right. Lying can get you into a heap of trouble. If you lie to an official then you could go to jail. Kind of like Juliet telling her father, Lord Capulet, that she wanted to marry Paris. Because she said that Lord Capulet moved up the date which complicated the plan that her and Friar Lawrence had. I don’t think that the consequences are bad enough for you to lie to someone but if it hurts their feelings then it should be ok to tell a little white lie. Kind of like telling your wife that she looks good but actually looks like a pile a horse dung. Thats ok because you don’t want her to be mad at you. But Juliet telling Lord Capulet that she wanted to get married wasn’t the greatest of lies to tell him. She should have stood up to him and told him that she didn’t want to marry Paris.
I don’t think Juliet and Friars’ plan wasn’t the greatest of lies. There is a lot of consequences that are going to follow the fake death. Lying is easy to do but tell the truth, on the other hand, is kind of difficult. I know that when I tell lies it’s because I fear the consequences. Juliet’s lie probably wasn’t the greatest lie to tell in the play but it may work out in the end.

ReplyDeleteIn Romeo and Juliet, some of the characters changed a lot. One of them that changed especially was Romeo. Romeo used to cry all the time and was depressed because the girl he liked, Rosaline, couldn’t marry him. Romeo used to be a baby, he would cry and wasn’t very brave. Then he met Juliet and he fought and killed Tybalt. Romeo used to be sad until he finally met his true love, Juliet.
Romeo was very depressed when he couldn’t get Rosaline. He would stay up all night and he would hardly talk to anyone, he just wanted to be by himself. Then Mercutio took him to a party and he saw Juliet. He was no longer depressed.
Romeo used to be a kind guy that wouldn’t even hurt anyone and he promoted peace. He didn’t ever want fighting no matter what. Then Tybalt killed his friend Mercutio and he was outraged. He went after Tybalt and killed him. Romeo’s personality changed real fast when he seen his friend get killed.
Romeo was very sad. He couldn't get the girl that he wanted. That’s all the Romeo wanted and he couldn’t have her. Then he met Juliet. Romeo was happy, he know had a girl and that was all he needed. Then once he killed Tybalt, he got banished. He was once again sad that he couldn’t be with his girl. He had a good time when he spent the night with her but once he had to leave his day was ruined.
Romeo changed a lot during the story. He changed a lot when he finally got a girl. I think it was good for Romeo to finally get a girl and be happy for a little while ,but it won’t last for long. Romeo changed a lot.

ReplyDeleteI feel the worst fro Juliet. First she lost her husband. Thanks to Tybalt fro killer Mercutio Romeo got so mad he killed Tybalt. So he got banished. Second she has to marry Paris. If I was her I would kill myself. Witch she did kill herself but she is is not died. she is fake died. I still would not do that she could wake up and and be all alone.
Fist she lost her husband. It all started when Tybalt made fun off Mercutio. Mercutio tried to defend himself but he died. Romeo got so made and he killed Tybalt. Once the prince heard about it eh banished Romeo. If I was Juliet I would Try to goto Romeo and leave her parents.
Second Juliet has to marry Paris. What I would do is slap Paris in the face and then wake away to Romeo and live with him the rest my life. If her parents would find out that she marry Romeo they would ether kill her or kick her out. The last thing that I would do is marry him, break up with him, and hen go live with Romeo that rest of her life.
That is what I would do if I was Juliet. Some of them things would be bad but I would Do it anyway.
Sympathy is feeling pity or sorrow for someone's misfortune. There are many people in Act IV in Romeo and Juliet that I have sympathy for, but I believe that the three people that deserve the most pity are Romeo, Juliet, and the Nurse for various reasons. Romeo and Juliet are now separated because Romeo is exiled, and the Nurse is in the middle of everyone's business just trying to keep the peace between the family members of the Capulet-and-Romeo side. There are many false convictions being made, and the Nurse is the only person that can hear every side of the story from each person's point of view.
ReplyDeleteAs a result of killing Tybalt after Tybalt murdered Mercutio accidentally, Romeo was exiled from Verona. As a result, he was not going to be able to spend his wedding night or "honeymoon" with Juliet that night. He began to worry that Juliet hated her because she would only know that fact that Romeo murdered Tybalt. She wouldn't know that it was justice for Mercutio's death. Romeo greatly feared that Juliet would hate him, but when Nurse came to visit him in Friar's cell, she assured him with these words: "Oh, he's acting just like Juliet, just like her. Oh painful sympathy! What a pitiful problem! She's lying on the ground just like him, blubbering and weeping, weeping and blubbering." and "[Romeo]: ' Does she think that I'm a practiced murderer because I tainted our newfound joy by killing on of her close relatives? How is she doing? What does my hidden wife say about our ruined love?' [Nurse]: 'She just weeps and weeps. She falls on her bed and then starts to get up. Then she calls out Tybalt's name and cries, 'Romeo,’..."
Nurse heard the news of Tybalt's death, and implied to Juliet that Romeo was dead as well, but that was not the case. Juliet was fretting about Romeo's death and later his exhalation from Verona, causing her to mourn. Little did her parents know, she was not mourning for her dear cousin, Tybalt's death. She was mourning because she knew she would no longer be able to be with her only love, Romeo. Her parents only wanted Juliet to be happy, so they approved the marriage between Juliet and Count Paris. Now Juliet has to get married Paris, but she is already secretly married and fears that she will be forced to commit an eternal sin. Nurse is just trying to keep the peace and tells Juliet to forget about Romeo and marry Paris to keep the peace in the family. Juliet highly disagrees with Nurse and this creates a bad relationship between them even though the Nurse is just trying to keep Juliet and the rest of the family happy.
As you can see, there is great tragedy and stress for all three of these people in Act IV, and they all deserve pity. These are not the only people that deserve sympathy, I just think that these people were put through the most tragedy that didn’t deserve it to begin with. Romeo was getting justice for his friend Mercutio, Nurse was trying to keep the peace, and Juliet is just a dreamy teenager that is heartbroken that her husband was exiled. These people all deserve my sympathy.
Lying can be done in different ways. There are little white lies. Such as when Juliet said she was going the Friar to ask for forgiveness. There are also major lies like when Romeo and Juliet get married. Eventhogth there are no good lies people still lie.
ReplyDeleteRomeo is lying to his parents and his family. He has never told them he got married. Juliet is doing the same thing. She is lying to her whole family and about being married to Romeo. This one lie makes Juliet keep telling little white lies to cover up this major lie. Once you start lying it is hard to stop. Juliet and Romeo are under a lot of stress because they have to lie about everything.
If Juliet and Romeo were to come out and confess about their marriage they would probably both be killed. In their case they are both better off lying or it could be keeping it seceret. Which is different then liying. Lying can be done in differently. You can tell little white lies or major lies that are life and death. They both have the same result which is you lied and you should feel bad.
#4 I’m sure you have lied before, but have you ever kept it for a long time or from your closest friends and family members. Everyone has a hard time trying to tell the truth all the time around everyone. Sometimes there is a very big problem if you keep on lying, and it is very unsual to have a good turn out at the end. When you lie, sometimes it could be good for that person, but they will eventually figure it out and you will get in trouble by them not talking to you or telling everyone else and you won’t have anyone to talk to. If a person lies all the time it could be very bad for themselves. In my opinion everyone is lying in the play somehow. They are either lying because of Romeo and Juliet’s marriage and keeping it or about where they are and what has happened that they know and others don’t. You could get so stressed out because of all the things you have to keep straight that you tell every person, and you might tell the wrong person the wrong lie and you will have a lot of explaining to do.
ReplyDeleteSome people think it is a good idea to lie and not tell the truth. You could get rid of so many problems, but could you? Maybe you could get rid of them for a little bit, but eventually someone will find out from another person, or you will accidently say it in front of that person when you didn’t even think they were there. Telling the truth is a much better route to go then lying. Sure, it might not be very fun at the start when you parents are yelling at you, you get your phone taken away, or even get grounded, but just think how much more trouble you would be in later on if you didn’t tell the truth to start with. When your whole life’s a lie it could be really hard on yourself. You could feel guilty every time you see that person and that’s all you can think of when you see that person. You could also zone out all the time and be super stressed out because of it. It takes a toll on everyone and not just you also. Everyone might get mad at you because you missed part of your study group or anything like that, and then you will have to worry about fixing that relationship and all the lies that go with all the other people that you told your lies to. I think everyone in the play lies at some point. Romeo and Juliet are lying right now that they aren’t married. Juliet is lying because she wants to marrying Paris, in the mean time Juilet is already married to Romeo. She is also going to “die” the day she is getting married to Paris, but she isn’t telling anyone, only the Friar knows. The evidence for this is when Lady Capulet is Juilet needs any help she says, “No, madam, we’ve figured out the best things for me to wear tomorrow at the ceremony. So if it’s okay with you, I’d like to be left alone now. Let the Nurse sit up with you tonight. I’m sure you have your hands full preparing for the sudden festivites.” Romeo is lying to his friends because they think he is seeing Rosaline where really he is seeing Juliet. The Nurse is lying to Capulet and Lady Capulet because the Nurse says that Juliet is off doing other things when Juliet is really going off and getting married to Romeo.
If you want to lie next time think about what it could do to your life and future. Telling the truth sometimes isn’t very fun, but it will be better telling about it now then later when the consequences are more worst then what they would have been. Your life will be easier to live then if you lie all the time, you won’t be so stresed and unhappy. Everyone will be in better mood if you are and it will be easier talking to them when you are telling the truth. Even if some people lie all the time and don’t get caught yet, like in the play, they will eventually. Even if you could get in huge trouble you would be a lot more relieved if you just confess right away. Your life would be a lot eaiser if you didn’t lie, and just tell the truth.

ReplyDelete#4Why is it hard to tell the truth at times? Everybody lies right? Maybe not for the right reasons, but they do it so they don’t get in trouble. Doesn’t that make things worse in the end when everyone finds out? Juliet and Romeo both lie about their marriage. Frair and the Nurse both lie about it as well. If they keep lying about it, then something bad is going to happen to both of them, because their families don’t want anything to do with each other.
ReplyDelete“Somewhere that has taught me to be sorry for my disobedience to you and to your will. Frair Laurence told me I must kneel before you and beg your pardon. So, please forgive me. From now on, I will do whatever you say.” Juliet lies to her parents about wanting to marry Paris, because that’s what Capulet wants. He threatened her that if she didn’t marry Paris she will be kicked out and living on the streets. She didn’t want to marry Paris, because she wanted to be a loyal wife to Romeo but if anybody found out she was married to Romeo, there could be huge consequences. The only person Juliet told was the Nurse. The Nurse was like her second mother. The Nurse didn’t tell a single soul, because she was like a maid. Lady Capulet didn’t seem too fond of her, but she did trust her with Juliet. The Nurse just wants to see Juliet happy. It kind of bothered her at first that Juliet wanted to marry a Monegue, but in the end, Nurse was alright with it.
Romeo lied to Mercutio and Benvolio along with many other Montegues. Everyone thinks he’s still in love with Rosaline, so Benvolio and Mercutio always make fun of him for it. The only person he told about Juliet was Frair Laurence who married them. Frair wants to keep it quiet because he knows if either side finds out right away that someone will start something, but thinks it could help end the family fued in the future so he agrees to marry them. He’s also there for Romeo through a lot and even for Juliet when she comes into the cell. Juliet was all happy until Paris left. “I’m sure you’ll confess that you love me too.” said Paris to Juliet who responds with “If I do, it will mean more if I say it to your back, rather than to your face.” But as soon as Paris left she just wanted something or even anything that could help her from marrying Paris or she’d kill herself. “Don’t tell me what you know, Frair, unless you can tell me how I can prevent it. If your knowledge and experience can’t offer any help, just tell me you agree with my solution and I’ll take care of it right now, with this knife.”
If you lie about something, then you are guaranteed to have something bad come out of it because sometimes some families just can’t get along. Lying doesn’t help solve things or help anything out, because in the end, you’re going to get caught. You might as well tell the truth. Sometimes you might have to lie to make the other person feel better and you don’t want to hurt their feelings. Sometimes that’s not even alright because you are going way too far with a little lie. Living a lie is easy for some people. They walk around with a smile on their face and act like everything is perfect and nothing could change that. Just like Juliet does with her father and the rest (Romeo, Nurse, and Frair) do to the world.

ReplyDeleteWhen I hear the word “truth”, I think of sincere and and honesty. And when I think of lying I think of dishonest, or behaving in an untrustworthy way. In the play Romeo and Juliet, which is in a whole different era, if they did want to get their head cut off, they had to lie. One factor would be Juliet telling her dad that she wants to marry Paris, when she is already married to Romeo. There are many people who will get away with lying and cheating and the many reasons why some people have the courage to lie.
In scene four and five, Juliet makes a plan that she will drink a potion from Friar Lawrence to make her seem dead when Paris marries her on Thursday morning. This would be considered lying. In this kind of situation I think Juliet could have just told her dad that she did not want to marry Paris, well if only it was in this time period. I am sure if Juliet said no she would have to leave the house instantly and never see her parents again. She does not want to anger her parents, but she wants to be with Romeo. Romeo is of course banished from Verona, and stayed with Juliet the night after their wedding. This could also be considered lying and breaking the rules, because he is not even suppose to be Verona.
Sometimes telling little lies, and not hurting anyone is okay. The lie better not hurt you or anyone else. There is nothing more than that. There is not a big difference in exaggerating the truth and lying. When exaggerating the truth you usually spread the truth. So if you ran fifteen miles and you really say 20 miles you are exaggerating, which is lying. I would have to say exaggerating the truth is not as bad as a lie could be but they can both do much harm. Also, the harm that lying does to you is more than just a yell from your mom, or a grounding for the day without your phone. However big the lie is, is how the consequences are going to filter out.
Lying also has bad mind games with it. Sometimes when you tell the lie so many times, you start believing that it is also true. When I think of lying it is like when you tell the fib, you are actually believing yourself while telling it. Some of the time when people tell lies they do get into trouble, but then there is also many who stretch the lie too far, that it actually causes them more trouble than the lie caused. Even just the way you say the lie can get you into more and more trouble. You really do not know what the consequences are until you say the lie. The consequences all depend on the lie. And if you were not to say any lies, there would be no room for consequences.
In Shakespeare’s play, he does make Romeo and Juliet lie to each other, and to others. Luckily for them in the beginning of the book their lies were turning out good. Their lies are now starting to go downwards. Sooner or later one of them, or both of them will have consequences they never knew would take place. They never guessed that their small little fibs would turn into this big of a scene.
Should I or should I not tell the truth is the question? That is the question you have to ask your self everytime you are thinking about lying. It doesnt matter if it is a big lie or just a little bitty lie. They can all get you into trouble, so I think that you just shouldnt lie. Nothing good comes out of lying you could get introuble, hurt people and even lose family. In this case I am talking about Juliet and how she lies to her parents about Romeo and there relationship.
ReplyDeleteJuliet has a lot of her shoulders at this point in the story she has lied to her parents about everything to do with Romeo. They dont even have the faitest thought that Juliet is in love with Romeo and is his wife. She also lies to the Nurse a mother like figure to her after she tells Juliet to forget about Romeo and marry Paris. With all these lies flooding in Juliet doesnt know what to do and is threating she is going to kill herself if she has to marry Paris. Lying leads to you getting suck in tight spots just like Juleit got herself into.
Another thing is if you lie will you be able to deal with the conscience that you will have on your mind after you do it. I guess it all depends on the type of person you are but I know I wouldnt be able to deal with it. I would feel so bad and have to the the person that I lied to them. It seems like Juliet is not one of those people because she has no problem lying to everyone. Even though she feels bad for lying to them she cant feel that bad because she hasnt confessed.
I wonder if Juliet is just scared of getting introuble bye her parents if she tells them what she has done. Maybe she is scared that she is going to lose everyone in there family and lose everyone that loves her. But she doesnt even know if she will get introuble for what she has done. Her parents might not see it as a bad thing and might think that this could work. She doesnt know what will happen until she asks anything is possible even with these familys hating eachother.
All in all I think lying is not a good thing, nothing good comes out of it and people just get hurt. Before you make a lie you have to think of all the bad things that could happen and make the lie just not worth it. In the end we know that all this lying didnt work for juliet because she ends up dying in the story. If she wouldnt of lied about her relationship with Romeo they both might of lived and everything worked out.
Juliet’s parents had no real love, she was just an object for them. Would you force your child to marry a total stranger to them? Yeah they may have money and looks but thats not what it is all about. They forced her to marry someone she didn’t love! She threatened to kill herself and they still made her marry Paris. They should have known she was going to do something to harm herself sooner or later. They didn’t love her, if you loved someone you wouldn’t make them do things they don’t want to. They should have paid more attention to her and her actions.
ReplyDeleteYes, they were trying to do what was best for her, but in the end it was probably the worst thing for her at the time. Juliet’s parents were just looking for a good status for themselves, they wouldn’t care if he was 90 they just wanted good status, they were being selfish. Love of parents should look happy and they were nowhere near to happy.
The Nurse was more of a mother then Lady Capulet, the Nurse was always there for her and Juliet would go to the Nurse for help not Lady Capulet. I can see how Lady Capulet loved Juliet somewhat but I think she was scared about what Prince Capulet would say. Prince Capulet owned both of them which is wrong in my mind, but that is how it was back then.

ReplyDeleteI am writing about Lying because I dislike it very much. I find it very interesting what it is, it is where someone would make a miss false statement to protect someone or something. People do it cover up something they did, like if they broke something or something like that. Then again they do it to help someone feel better maybe so they won’t feel so bad. If you ever lie it should be for a very good reason.
ReplyDeleteIf you take the risk of lying things very bad could happen, or in some cases very few something good will happen. By lying you could get fired from a job, grounded, people will lose respect for you, and some places won’t let you in anymore. In very few cases I can think of is where it is good to lie, like if a little kid has lost someone very close to them, you can tell them something else that would make sense. When they get old enough to understand you can tell them then. You should really never lie unless you are dealing with kids or something.
Who lies in the story is the next and last topic. It is who lies in the story “Romeo and Juliet.” Juliet lies in this story when she goes to the Friar to discuss how she will not marry Prince and go away with Romeo, but then Prince walks in and she tells him she is here to say how much she loves him. She says this because needs to talk to Friar alone and doesn’t want Prince to know about what is going on.
Sometimes lying is a necessity. I think that sometimes you have no other choice but to lie. Other times, though, your lying can hurt others around you. In the play of Romeo and Juliet there are many lies being told. Most of these lies are necessary, while others may not be. I think lying depends on the situation you are in.
ReplyDeletePeople lie a lot of the time just to avoid getting in trouble, whether it be from their parents, teachers, or friends. People also lie sometimes because they believe that their life would be ruined if people found out the truth, or that people would look at them differently. In the story of Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers lie about their marriage because they are afraid of the consequences. If Juliet’s parents were to find out that she was married to Romeo right now, they would kick her out onto the streets, or maybe even kill her.
This is a reason in which I think it is okay to lie. It’s not that Juliet committed a crime or anything. She just fell in love with a guy that her parents wouldn’t approve of. Not only is Juliet lying though, Nurse and Friar Laurence are lying to save themselves also. Sometimes there is no other choice but to lie. In other instances, though, lying can be very wrong. If you are in court and on trial, it is definitely not okay to lie.
Some people can’t live their life knowing they have told a big lie. Their conscience keeps telling them that they did the wrong thing and they might eventually come clean because of it. Others can live their life knowing they have told a lie with no problem. I know I could not. If I told a big lie and it affected other people, I would have to come clean about it.
There are some circumstances in which it is acceptable to lie and others in which it is not. There may be no other choice, or you might hurt those around you if you don’t lie. In other situations you may have to tell the truth so others don’t get hurt. Lying can be both good and bad. You just have to find out which is true in what situation.

ReplyDeleteFor some people, lying may be a habit that you do often. For others it may be hard to lie to family or friends. Lying can get you in trouble but it won't hurt people. Everybody has lied at least once in their lives!
In this superstitious acts compiled together, there is a bunch of lying that can happen. Romeo has told a lot of lies to his family about his infectious love for Juliet. Obviously they fell in love at first site, which isn't always the occasion. That night, Romeo lied and said he was hanging out with the other girl. Romeo lied about his feelings towards Juliet the whole time. Sometimes people have to lie to achieve greater things like love.
Some people have bad intentions. People may use lying to make them feel higher up then others. Lying can obviously hurt people. In act 3 scene 1 Romeo refuses to fight Tybalt and causes his friend Mercutio to die. If his friends knew the real reason why he wasn't fighting, maybe the outcome wouldn't have happened. Lying got Romeo and trouble! He lost one of his best friends and ended up killing Juliet's cousin which caused a great amount of grief.
Either way, lying is not good. Sure it may make you feel higher up, but think of the consequences; good or bad? Lying is never the answer. It is always better to tell the truth to people. Hurting them could cost relationships that you had with people. It may make you feel unworthy of yourself and you may regret not saying things!
Love from parents is such a vital thing in a childs life. If there is no love, there is no reason for being there. Juliet’s parents mourned over her death. They mourned differently than most parents. They really did care about Juliet, but they didn’t show their love like most parents do.
ReplyDeleteJuliet’s parents were astonished when they found out that she was dead. The nurse felt horrible as well. The nurse even said. “...My lady’s dead! Oh curse the day that I was born!” Lady Capulet stated “Accursed, unhappy, wretched, hateful day! This is the most miserable hour of all time! I had only one child, one poor child, one poor and loving child, the one thing I had to rejoice and comfort myself, and cruel Death has stolen if from me!” Lady Capulet felt horrible about Juliet’s death. Capulet also feels bad, but to me, he doesn’t show enough sadness. He says “Despised, distressed, hated, martyred, killed! Why did this have to happen now? Why did Death have to ruin our wedding?” He makes is sound as if Juliet would have died at a different time, it would have been better. Their mourning is unique, but everyone mourns differenly.
Some people question if Juliet’s parents’ love for her is real. I think that they truly do love Juliet, but they just don’t know how to show it. Juliet was their only daughter, and they really cared for her. Juliet was the only person that they had to love. Juliet’s parents just wanted what was best for her. They wanted her to get over the loss of Tybalt by marrying Paris. They wanted to help her, but they didn’t help her in the right ways. They should have given her space for a little longer, and then try to talk it out. They were a little too demanding, and too caring. At times, they put their needs before Juliet’s.
Most parents show their love for their children differently than Lady Capulet and Capulet. Parents should always show affection for their kids, and kids shouldn’t question whether or not their parents love them. Parents want what is best for their kids, and take their children's needs into consideration. Parents sometimes get carried away, and push their kids too hard. This is similar to Capulet and Lady Capulet. A loving parent also has a very close relationship with their child, unlike Juliet’s parents.
Love from parents is so important in every child’s life. It is important that they mourn for their children if needed, and love them endlessly. If a parent show no affection for their kids, they are not much of a parent. They have to make sure their love is genuine and real. Love is important in everyones life.

ReplyDeleteEveryone has problems. Some have more than others. In this play, I believe Juliet and Romeo have the most problems. I have the most sympathy for Juliet though. She has marriage and family problems. Also she has timing problems and big decisions to make. Her life is definitely not one I would like to have.
Her family situation is not good. Her dad is making her get married to someone she barely knows. She refuses to go along with it so he becomes angry and violent. Her parents don’t care about anything she says other than that she will marry Paris. She was also just married to Romeo the day before. He also has no idea what is going on because he is banished. He can't see her, help her, or talk to/ about her. Their marriage is a secret so if anyone knows then it won't turn out well.
Juliet has to make a lot of decisions that could help or hurt her. She has to decide if she wants to marry Paris or not. Will she dis-obey her parents? Should she committ suicide or not? She has to chose if she wants to drink the potion or not. Most of these decisions could result in death.
Everything happens at the wrong time for her. She gets married to Romeo and that day he is banished. They spend the night together and after he leaves she is told she is getting married to Paris. She refuses but is told she has to. She talks to Friar who makes a plan that has to be timed perfectly. Now everything is changed and it is suppose to happen earlier. When she agrees to marrying Paris, Capulet said, "Send for the count - tell him about this. We'll have this wedding tomorrow morning."
Juliet has a lot of problems and tough decisions. She has more than most. That is saying a lot because most people have a lot of problems. Adding together marriage/family problems to timing issues and huge decisions, it is not the best for anyone. I have a lot of sympathy for her. I hope my life never turns out to have as many problems as she does.
Hearing and watching people roll words off their tongue, is sometimes difficult. Not because we are not educated to be able to understand, but we are not educated to realize. To realize that those words coming off of the tip of the tongue, could, or could not be, a lie. How do you know if it is the truth or not? Well, the truth is you don’t. If you told me you have never lied in your life, you would be lying. It is something that we do ourselves and get frustrated when other people do it to us.
ReplyDeleteJuliet is one of us too, she lies. She is living in a lie with not just her but the people that help her make the lie realistic. What is the reason for someone so highly known, and wealthing, to lie? She believed, like everyone else that lies, that it was a good reason to do so. We know that there was one person that really helped Juliet into her big lying experience. That would be Friar Laurence. They both were aware with their consequences, or a guess on what their consequences would be. That didn’t stop Friar from marrying Juliet and Romeo, telling Paris he could marry Juliet and Paris, and telling Juliet to lie to her father in order for his plan to work. “Very well, then. Go home and look happy. Agree to marry Paris.” In some situations the consequences don’t matter to them anymore, and it isn’t a problem to lie. In other situations, the consequences are the deal breaker on if someone decides to lie or not. When they do decide to lie, it isn’t a real chore to do, but getting in trouble is something that we struggle with. It all depends on the person’s morals. That is what it comes down to, morals, reasons, and in Juliet’s case love.
Those people that decide to lie, decide to deceive other people as well. Family members are fueled with reassurance, if the matter is good. “I’m so happy that my wayward daughter has come back to me.” Capulet is tricked and now flies under Juliet’s wing of lies. Friends are caught up in the loop, and part of the fire spreading, which they are caught in. Romeo is one of them that is just as bad as Juliet and makes these lies to fall in love with her, which isn’t a bad reason. He probably won’t regret it, but others might. “I wish I didn’t know the reason for my delay.” Friar thought in his head. This is a sign of those people coming back to their conscience. They realize that the thing they have done is something they can’t get out of and they know that they have done something wrong. You even see that today in society, we lie and are caught in that state of shock and coming back to our morals. In fact, I think that lying overall is coming a bigger problem. We don’t have those big consequences like in the olden days. We usually never have a good reason anymore. The most common consequences is losing people we love, trust, and morals. The consequences don’t have to be negative all the time either. Lying can help achieve bigger and better things for a person. The one negative consequence that really sticks out is losing people we love. In the play Juliet has to face that consequence that she will lose people she loves if she follows through and lies. I think that lying is something that sits on the borderline of being okay, and being not okay. It all depends on the situation.
So are we ever going to know or pick up on someone’s lies, or someone’s mouth is speaking true? Well, to tell you the truth. . .no. We aren’t, it’s apart of being human.
Essay #4
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just never know whether to say the truth, or tell a lie. These are two different words that can cause a problem between two people, or maybe even thousands of people. When you are thinking about you two choices, think, is it alright if I lie to substitute the bad behavior to the good? Is is alright to tell others a lie just because you want to, and is it safe to say that when you get in trouble, the pain only lasts a little while. Well, this is all occurring in the story Romeo and Juliet.
When you do not do something right or say you break a rule, would it feel right in your mind to lie, just to cover it up? If i were to do something bad I would apologize and express my feelings through sorrow and grief. It is always nice to tell the truth because the old saying is, “if you lie about things, it will just make the consequences worse and more painful.” I can relate this to Romeo and Juliet, because the two star-crossed lovers have not told either side of their families. This could eventually come back around to haunt them.
When you continually tell others the truth, they begin to trust you and build up a state of being that makes their body and mind trust you. If Romeo were to tell Capulet that he loves Juliet, he may be very mad at first but if he pondered on it for long enough he may say, you know what that Romeo boy is much better than Paris. I feel that this marriage is not a very strong relationship where the parents and the two in love don’t talk. If both would communicate and get along like they are supposed to, it could work out in the end.
Have you ever been put into a situation that you cannot handle? Have you ever had to tell someone to do something because you think it’s right for them, but in the end they hate you for it? These are the shoes that both Nurse and Juliet have had to wear. Nurse has had to tell Juliet things that Juliet doesn’t want to hear. Juliet has had to make decisions at the young age she is in. Both of these characters have thriving roles that would be difficult to have in real life, and I have full sympathy for them.
ReplyDeleteWhen you’re thirteen, all you should have to worry about it impressing your crush, having fun with your friends, and worrying about if your parents like you or not. You shouldn’t have to worry about getting married. That’s a lifetime commitment that most people at the age of 30 even aren’t ready for. She is in love with Romeo, but her family is in love with Paris. Paris is a Capulet while Romeo is a Montegue. Juliet doesn’t like that she loves a Montegue, but when you love someone you can’t control how you feel. Your heart just takes over. Her family is forcing her to marry Paris. Being torn between two loves, Juliet is always considering suicide. She’s trying to live her life by loving the man she wants to love, but her parents are blocking her from doing so. They think that marrying Paris is the best thing for her, when really she will never be happy. If she were to marry him, it would be for their sake not hers. Bless her heart.
Growing up we always have our moms to our sides. Pushing us on the swings, playing together, and having someone to look up to and to love was what their job consisted of. Nurse played this role for Juliet. Lady Capulet, Juliet’s mom, didn’t exactly play the part of a mother for Juliet. She was busy being important and having a social life. Because of Romeo’s banishment, Nurse thinks that the best thing for Juliet is to go ahead with the marriage that her parents want for her. If she doesn’t marry him, then her father will disown her and she will die on the streets. Nurse just wants what is best for her, even if it means not marrying the man she loves. At this point, Juliet hates Nurse for wanting her to marry the man she doesn’t love and to forget about the man she truly loves. Little does Nurse know that Juliet and Friar Lawrence made a plan on how to get Juliet and Romeo together without causing trouble. This involves Juliet’s heart stopping for a while then beating again. Juliet will be taken to the vault because her family will think that that’s where they are burying her. Romeo will then go to the vault, hopefully find Juliet alive and they will live happily ever after. Nurse finds Juliet lying on her bed (Juliet drank the potion and she was in her ‘heart stopping’ stage). Nurse was devastated. She probably thought that all of this was her fault. She was probably thinking that Juliet committed suicide because she was going to have to marry Paris. Nurse was the one who told Juliet to marry Paris, and Juliet would only listen to Nurse’s opinion over everyone’s. Nurse shouldn’t have to go through this. She is the one who should be hurting over all of them. She was Juliet’s real mother after all.
As people, we will face struggles that will challenge us. But think about not being able to control what you are able to do. Think about other people making choices for you all because of their power over you. Think of having to be the mother of a child that isn’t yours. Put yourself in one of those positions. Nurse and Juliet are strong women and I could not do what they have done.
There are many reasons to lie, not all of them good. In fact most reasons to lie are bad, and cause more harm than the truth. Omitting the truth is slightly different than straight up lying. While omitting can be just as bad, you aren't covering it up necessarily, it could be more of a don't ask, don't tell rather than an avoidance of the topic.
ReplyDeleteLying is something most try to avoid, and for good reason, it leads to trouble, lots of it. Whether you mean to or not, it will, good intentions or bad lying leads to more trouble than it’s worth more often than not. In Act 3, Scene 2. Juliet lied and said that she wanted to marry Paris, and that caused the wedding to be moved up one day. The closer date ment that the potion may not have the time to work, and Juliet would not “die” on time.
Lying by omission can be just as bad in some cases, neither of Juliet’s parents knew about the marriage so they couldn't call off the wedding, or punish her, or do whatever they see fit. Which in turn means that if they found out right after the other wedding she would be in even more trouble since she would be married to two people.
Lying to try and protect someone may be viewed, in the moment, as okay, but if they found out that you knew something that could potentially be important to them, you could hurt them more than telling the truth would have. They could get very angry or hurt that you don’t trust them, or feel that they can handle the truth.
So, lying leads to consequences that are almost always bad meaning you shouldn't lie for any reason, whether you think it’s good or not. It can lead to all sorts of trouble that you could ever expect. Knowing that lying can lead to trouble and just not lying are two different things and not lying can be a hard habit to break. Lying is never a good idea and it is best to avoid it as much as possible.
At times it can be very difficult to tell the truth, but quite often it is necessary. Don’t get me wrong, all of us have lied at some point in our lives, even if it was just a little fib. Lying is a very touchy topic, and sometimes we feel like we almost have to lie. In Romeo and Juliet there is some lying taking place which has caused many complications.
ReplyDeleteThe main lie in this play all started with Romeo and Juliet’s wedding. Juliet has probably been living the biggest lie of all. Although she hasn’t specifically went up and told her parents that she is married to Romeo, she is still lying to them. Sometimes not telling someone the truth is just as bad, or worse than lying. If she would have told the truth about marrying Romeo, there would have been many more complications with her parents, but most likely she wouldn’t have a wedding planned for the next day to marry Paris though. This is just one example of lying in this play and it shows how difficult it really is.
Not only are living a lie, Friar Lawerance isn’t much better. For instances when Juliet is “dead”, he acts as if he doesn’t know Juliet has “died”. Friar Lawerance then states “Don’t disturb the heavens any more by trying to go against heaven’s will.” We know he is trying to help them cope with the fact that it appears that their daughter is dead, when he was the one who was behind all of this. This is a tough position for Friar Lawerance. He doesn’t want to marry Paris and Juliet because he just married Romeo and Juliet not very long ago. Although a man in his position is not supposed to lie, this seems like the only way out of this mess in his case.
Lying, while helpful at times, can not only hurt others, but also yourself. Even though you may not be saying that you did or didn’t do something, I believe if you try to make the other person try to believe the opposite of what really happened, then its just as bad as lying to their face. As we can clearly see in Romeo and Juliet, lying can cause many complications and a lot of the time just isn’t worth it.

ReplyDelete#2 Adults Helping Teenagers with Problems
ReplyDeleteJuliet is a teenage girl that has many problems. On her journey of love she has had many people help her. From her Nurse that is pretty much her mother. To the Friar who marries people, and is the priest. Romeo, her secret lover is from a family she is supposed to hate.
From the party at Juliet’s house that Romeo snuck into, and saw Juliet, they were in love. Romeo went up to her room and they talked and decided to get married. The Nurse just told Juliet to make sure she is truley in love, because she loves her like a daughter and doesn’t want to see her get hurt. Romeo went and talked to Friar about marriage. At first he was hesitant about it. Later he decided to marry them to try to resolve problems between the families. Later on, when Juliets father wanted her to marry the rich Paris, Juliet went to talk to Friar and he helped her make up a plan to seem dead for two days and then wake up and run away with Romeo. She just had to drink a vial.
When teenagers are in trouble or need help, adults are there for them. If they need advice, They will give you advice. Juliet need help with some decisions, and the nurse was there to help her make the right one. Romeo asked Friar for help marrying the young teenage couple without their parents knowing. From money to advice to just doing a favor, adults will be there for teenagers.
Lying is such an easy thing, but yet it is still such a bad thing to do. People lie all the time becuase then they think they can get away with more. I think that lying is wrong because then you lose trust of each other. Everyone will lie more than likely in the life span, but it does not help you at all.
ReplyDeleteIn some sutiuations I do think that it is hard to tell the truth. Some reasons why I think so are because I think that people know that once they tell the truth that the outcome will be bad. For instance if Romeo and Juliet tell someone about how they are married and their two families do not get a long, the penalyt will then be death. Even if Romeo told someone that he went to a capulets party, he wouldnt have to lie so many times. People also think that being in trouble is worse. In the play however, I look at it as if Romeo and Juliet tell someone, yes, they will probably be killed but then in heaven they can do what they want. Romeoa and Juliet will not have to hide from anyone anymore. Not everyone tells the truth because they think that the lie is better then what actually happened.
When someone lies to another, the person being lied at should not be able to trust the other person anymore because then from there on out you do not knoiw ehdn they are lying or telling the truth. Once you lie then you just dig yourself a deeper hole to begin with. Once you lie you have to keep lying to make up for that lie. If Romeo and Juliet were to tell someone about them two being married then they will both be killed because the two families do not like each other because a long time prior there was a lack of trust between the two grandfathers.
Lying is not good because then no one will be able to believe you anymore. Some people lie so much that it just becomes a habit and they wont be able to tell when they are telling the truth or when they are lying anymore.
Lies are away many people use to get out of stuff they did wrong that they wish they wouldn’t have. Where does lying get you in life? How does lying affect your life through your conscience? Who really lies throughout the play Romeo and Juliet? It is most of the time better to tell somebody the truth rather than tell them the opposite because it will eventually come back to get you either through your conscience or even the person who you fed the lie.
ReplyDeleteWhere does lying really get you in life? It gets you nowhere because the person you lied to will probably find out or you conscience will eat you from the inside out. Nobody like a liar because if they are not telling the truth the what is the point in listening to the lie. Also, nobody likes them because they might lie all of the time so when are you supposed to know when they aren’t lying. A good way to get along with others is to tell the truth.
What effects do lies have on people? Lies can really have an effect on the way people live after they tell a lie. People can’t do many tasks because all they think about is how they have lied to people and what their next lie will have to be to cover up the last lie that they just told. If you lie your conscience will catch up to you sooner or later .
In the play Romeo and Juliet there are many people that lie all throughout the play and someone is bound to find out. Juliet and Romeo both lie to their parents by not telling them what they are doing. Juliet also tells her parents that she misses Tybal tand that is also a lie.
Lying is not the way to get out of doing something that you wish you haven’t done . The best thing to do is to just tell the truth and all things will be alright . Life will go on even if some gets mad at you for a while.
Have you ever been in a difficult situation? One that could hurt people either way you choose? The Friar is almost always in a difficult situation. A lot of people look up to him, so he has a lot of respect. He doesn’t want to lose that respect by making a bad decision. I have sympathy for the Friar because he always has to keep his respect and make good decisions for other people.
ReplyDeleteOne of the many people that look up to him is Julliet. The Friar married Romeo and Juliet, and now, since their marriage is falling apart, Juliet and Romeo are looking to him to help them put it back together. Juliet goes to the Friar to ask him if he can delay the marriage between her and Paris. Juliet threatens to kill herself if the marriage can’t be stopped. The Friar feels like he has to find a way to stop the wedding. He doesn’t want Juliet to kill herself, so he thinks of a dangerous way to stop the wedding from happening. He is faced with many other tough decisions throughout the story.
Some of his decisions come with guilt. Juliet could die because of the dangerous way that the wedding will be stopped. When Juliet’s family finds Juliet “dead,” he will have to act sad. Romeo may not get the message about Juliet by the time she wakes up. The Friar will feel guilty for that too. He knows he can’t marry Paris and Juliet because he already married Juliet to another man. He feels guilty for a lot of the lying that he has to do.
The Friar lies a few times throughout the story, but he has a reason for it. He wants to end the feud between Romeo and Juliet’s families. The Friar has to do a lot of lying and feel a lot of guilt to end this feud that has been going on for years. He knows that it is dangerous and unlikely, but he is determined to make peace between the families.
The Friar is greatly respected for the decisions that he makes. He tries to make everyone happy. Most of the time, he is successful, but sometimes he feels guilty. Guilt doesn’t go away very easily. This is why I have the most sympathy for the Friar.
The definition of a lie is, “an intentionally false statement.” Face it, everyone has told a lie before. Even George Washington has I bet. In this story, Juliet lies a lot. Some of the times she tells the truth but in words her parents want to hear. Juliet is expected to obey her parents and they never suspect her of lying about anything.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, Juliet doesn’t tell her parents about her marriage to Romeo. That is not a false statement if she hasn’t even mentioned anything about it but it is still disobeying her parents. By not telling them, it is as bad as a lie. If you look at the anger the parents had towards Juliet when she refused to marry Paris, you can imagine what it would be like if they figured out their daughter is married to a montague...
Juliet lied to her parents about wanting to marry Paris just so she could be with Romeo. Yes... it sounds weird but it was just a lie to get her out of the marriage. The Friar had a plan that required her to agree to the marriage. The Friar gave her the potion to drink so she would appear “dead” and then she could run off with Romeo. Yet another lie here.
Acting dead is another lie to her parents and everyone around her. Again its not a false statement but it is faking something... like a lie. Everyone believed that she was dead and she wasn’t. Just like a lie. Everyone believed that John was a rockstar and he wasn’t. See the similarities? Sometimes lying seems like the right thing when it truly isn’t. A lie can hurt people more than the truth can.
The definition of a lie is, “an intentionally false statement.” I second that. You don’t have to talk to lie. That was what Juliet did in this story. Also, always tell the truth. As you can see in the story, many people were hurt by the lies but if everyone was truthful, it would have eventually worked out and nobody would have been killed.
Telling the truth seems to be hard to some, but Adolf Hitler proved that lying takes a lot more work and effort when he said, “If you tell a big enough lit and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.” Personally, I think that telling the truth is less stress. Not only do you not have to remember your lie, you don’t have to make up more lies to cover your first one. Lying is like a spider’s web, It just keeps going, each lie interweaving and connecting with the others.
ReplyDeleteWhether you’re telling the truth or lying, you’re likely to get in trouble. Telling the truth may get you into trouble for a short amount of time, but if someone finds out you’ve lied to them, they’re going to be more angry with you, and their punishment will be greater than that if you told the truth. If you tell the truth, people are more likely to respect and trust you in the future. If you lie to someone, they are less likely to trust what you’re saying in the future. Eventually, you may develop a guilty conscience about all this lying, and you’ll want to stop and go back and fix things, you’ll want to go back to when everyone trusted you, but you won’t be able to. Or maybe someday you’ll realize that you don’t even have a conscience any more because you destroyed it a little bit every time you lied.
In Romeo and Juliet I feel that everyone is lying in their own ways. Romeo and Juliet are lying to everyone by hiding their secret wedding and their secret love for one another. The nurse is also lying to her masters because she, too, hides Romeo and Juliet’s secret marriage from everyone. Mr. and Mrs. Capulet are liars, too, although they don’t really know it. Sir Capulet lies when he tells Paris that Juliet will marry him and become happy. He was also lying when he told Paris that Juliet would always go happily along with what her father had told her to do. Lady Capulet’s lies are few, but existent. When Lady Capulet lies, it’s mostly about her love for her daughter. Each time Lady Capulet pretends to care for Juliet, it’s really a lie to save her own conscience. Last but not least, the Friar. He is also a character who portrays a great liar (isn’t lying a sin? Naughty, naughty). The Frair doesn’t lie like the rest of the characters, he lies in the sense of silence. He says out loud that he will marry Juliet and Romeo because that’s what they want, but underneath it all, Friar Lawrence is not telling the entire truth. He doesn’t want Romeo and Juliet to find out his true intentions for marrying the two of them, so he keeps silent, and as Yevgeny Yevtushenko put it, “When truth is replaced by silence, then silence is a lie.”’
Lying, whether in good intentions or bad, should never be done. It leads to bigger punishment, trust issues, a very guilty conscience, and more lies. There are never really any examples of someone who lied, and didn’t run into one problem or another. Whether your mom catches you lying about cleaning your room, or Karma catches you lying about anything of importance, you will be caught, and you will have to face the music, no matter how disgustingly off-key it may be.
5. Of the characters in Act IV, who do you have sympathy for? Why? Provide specific details to support your opinion. Be sure to elaborate and explain your thoughts in detail.
ReplyDeletePeople have sympathy for others, people also have sympathy for characters. Characters who are having a hard time like being depressed, someone died, or a tragedy can make us have sympathy for them. In the story Romeo and Juliet sympathy plays a big part in the lives of the Nurse, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence.
The Nurse took care of Juliet all of her life, and now she thinks that Juliet is dead. The Nurse had a good relationship with Juliet. If the Nurse wouldn't have listened to Juliet, Juliet would have been alive. The Nurse thought of Juliet as her own daughter and would have done anything for her.
Juliet has a lot of stress in her life. She is suppose to marry Paris, but she is already married. I have sympathy for Juliet because she is going to take a vial and she doesn't really even know what is in it. I also sympathize with her because she shouldn't have to be forced to marry someone that she doesn't want to marry. Friar Lawrence also feels Juliets pain and feels sympathy for her.
Friar Lawrence has a lot to deal with. He is trying to help both Romeo and Juliet. I feel sympathy for him because he will have a lot of guilt to deal with if the plan he has made does not work. Friar Lawrence is a holy person and he would think that he is a bad person if Juliet died.
Everyone has had sympathy for someone at one time in their life. Whether it be in a death situation like Juliet or a stressful situation like the Friar is going through. When someone you love dies, for example the Nurse who loved Juliet as a daughter, she felt sorry for Juliet and only wanted the best for her. My final thoughts for Act Four is that I have sympathy for Juliet, the Nurse and Friar because they all have to go through so much stress. They all are trying to help each other out and are truly there for each.
Love is something that parents and their children share, the kids look up to their parents and they are one of the most important people in a childs life. But for Juliet, her parents control her and tell her that she has to do what they say or they will practically disown her. By them doing that to Juliet, I know I would feel unimportant to my parents if they always were controlling me and pointing out my flaws and telling me that I have to do what makes them happy and not being able to make my own decisions.
ReplyDeleteTheir “love” is different then most parents love is because I think she feels as if, if she does not please them that she is at fault, when in reality she is not the one who is at fault it is mostly her parents because they are putting her under so much stress and with her wanting to please them, but wanting to have those freedoms and everything and with sneaking around with Romeo, everything is just in a big mess. In my opinion, I think that they are just way too controlling over Juliet and do not let her have freedoms. And with how they treat her, they just throw her around and are rude to her and dont really care about her because they specifically said if she does not marry Paris then they will disown her, she will be thrown out onto the streets, and will be striped from the famly name because she will be a “disgrace” to the family name.
Juliet's parents did not mourn like normal parents would. They reacted to her “death” but they didn't seem to care too much about her and they were almost more worried about the wedding not happening and Juliet not being with Paris because the only reason why Juliet's parents wanted her to be with Paris because he was wealthier and her family wanted money in the family. Even though her parents do not know that she is only just on a potion and not really “dead” but not knowing that, they still did not react to how I know my parents would react, but Juliet's parents did not react to how a parents real love would have been.
I feel bad for juliet and her family. if juliet wouldn't have fallen in love with romeo there would be no deaths and no violence. Every thing got started when romeo went to ball. the whole thing still revolves around juliet's family. If they would just let juliet pick who she wants to be married to there would be no fighting. The only reason juliet's mother wants her to marry Paris is because he is wealthy and adds a good look to the family. A good parent would let there daughter choose who she wants to be with for the rest of her life. Even if her parents don't like the guy they should give him a chance to take there daughters hand in marriage. There should never be a time where your parents make a choice for your wedding especially not picking who she should marry and be with for the rest of her ling life that she has ahead pf her as a young woman.
ReplyDeleteLying is something that everyone has done in their life. It is habit for humans to make mistakes, just like it is habit to tell a little white lie every once and awhile. Why do we choose to lie? Does lying affect our conscience? Who is lying in the play “Romeo and Juliet?”
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to getting out of trouble, many teens, and even some adults, will lie. Lying isn’t something we should do, but it happens all the time. Teenagers will lie to get out of trouble with their teachers, parents, or even their boss. When you lie to anyone, you are taking a risk. A risk that can destroy the trust between you and the person you told that lie to. They will find out someday, even though you take the risk hoping they will never find out. A lot of times, people will lie to take the blame for someone. They do this because they care about them and don’t want them to get hurt. We also lie to others because we are trying to protect someone, we do this because we care about the person we are lying for.
Lying can greatly affect our conscience. It can destroy you because you didn’t tell the truth and you feel extremely bad about it. This feeling is horrible, so you eventually give in and tell the truth. Some people are so used to making up lies that their conscience isn’t affected. They just tell a lie and move on with their life hoping nobody finds out that they lied.
In Romeo and Juliet, there are many characters that lie. but the main two are Romeo and Juliet. They met at the Capulet ball and fell in love instantly. They quickly found out that they were from opposing families, otherwise saying that they could not be together. They didn’t care that they were enemies, they were going to be together. Juliet proposed that night and sent a messenger to Romeo the next day. Romeo was to send Juliet instructions as to when and where they were getting married. He did and they got married at two o’clock at the Friar’s cell. Romeo and Juliet only told the Friar, the nurse, about being married. Juliet’s parents want her to marry Paris, because they hope she will stop grieving over Tybalt (Romeo killed him after he got married to Juliet.) Juliet is actually grieving over Romeo because he was banished from the city. Juliet’s parents don;t know that she is married to Romeo and this is why they want her to marry Paris. This is a big lie that Juliet told to her parents and she is making the nurse and the Friar keep their marriage a secret.
The prince told the two families that if they fight again he would kill any of those found in the fight. this could be effective and ot could be a bad idea its the choice of the families if they want to die or live.
DeleteI would rate this idea a 10 because if they fight they will be killed and if they dont they will live longer. If they choose to ignore it they will be given the death penalty by the prince. The family leaders would have to tell their people not to fight if they dont want to be killed by the prince. this woul help the city and keep the peace between the two families for a while it keeps the whole city more peaceful for a while until the party and tybalt wants to fight romeo but capulet didnt let him, the death penalty wasnt going to stop him from killing romeo and it might not work on the streets either. this could also be very effective and it could stop the fights. if someone told me if i fight that they would kill me i probably wouldnt fight. the new rule will work with the peoplr that dont care about fighting but to those like tybalt that want nothing more than to fight it wont work, it relies on the way that the people take it in and if they care about death or not. capulet knew that at the party romeo wasn’t looking to fight and tybalt didnt care he wants to kill all montagues. the death penalty would not stop him. i would agree with his plans to enforce the streets with the death penalty and i belive it would stop most of the fights bt some people dont care and want to fight for the family and will sacrafice their lives to do it.

ReplyDeleteLove can be showed in many different ways by everyone. Everybody has their own way of showing that they care and love about someone else. Parent’s show that they love their children, as kids show that they love their dog. Was Juliet’s parent’s love for real, or was it pretend? Her parent’s were mean to her, and didn’t seem like they loved her very much, but when they found out that she was dead, they acted totally different than what we had seen before. They don’t seem to be showing the real love that parent’s should feel toward their children.
In the story, Juliet’s parents show their love to her in different ways. Her mom is her mom, but didn’t really raise her, so they don’t have the mother daughter bond that most moms and daughters have. Her father seems like he cares about her, and wants what is best for her. When he sees that she is upset, he thinks that it was due to her cousin dying, and wants to get her mind off of things by marrying Paris. He thinks that it is the best for her, and when she doesn’t want to, he threatens her by saying he would drag her to the church, and would throw her out if she didn’t marry him. When they find her dead, they act different though. Now they seemed like they were the best parents in the world, and that they cared for her greatly. Her mom was really upset, and her father was acting really sad too. All of the things that they had planned for the wedding, were now going to be for her funeral.
Real love doesn’t hate. Real love doesn’t force. Real love is compassionate. Real love is unconditional. When someone loves someone else, especially a parent and a child, these should happen. The way my mom loves me, you can tell that it is there. She sometimes has weird and embarrassing ways to show it, but it is always there. If a mother really cared and loved their child, they would truly care about them. They would want what was best for them, and not just what they themselves wanted. Respect is also something that needs to be involved. Without respect, things won’t work.
Juliet’s parent’s love toward her isn’t the best. They say that they love and miss her when she died, but when she was living, they didn’t show it. If you want someone to know that you love them, you have to show it or tell them, and mean it. I don’t think that their love for her was real. I think that they were just putting on a show, so it made it look like they really loved their daughter.
Parents love is a very different way for different families. Like some families think its normal to be wrapped up in bubble wrap their entire life. Just never let their kids go out into the world and see what its like. And like people who let their kids do whatever with no consequences then they began to smoke pot and steal and that kind of stuff. So my parents let us do what we want but we have a really close family we tell eachother everything and i think that is a thing that is very well needed like every weekend we go racing which keeps our family very close and thats how I think families should be.
ReplyDeletejuliet and romeo are going to have a hell of a time seeing each other if Romeo is baned from the city. They will have a lot harder time seeing each other because of this. Also when Juliets parents find out about Juliets marriage they will not be happy. I think Juliets parents will try to separate them from each other if they find out shes faking her death so she doesnt have to marry Paris.
It is hard to tell the truth sometimes like in romeo and juliets story they have a secret that needs to be told but they tell nobody except the firar, but only so he can marry them and nurse knows they are married. sometimes it is better to tell the truth and sometimes it is not a good idea. it can be hard to tell the truth if you dont want to get in trouble or you dont want someone to know something, like if it would hurt them or yourself. sometimes you cant tell the truth because of the outcome for you and others.
